5 Areas To Pray Over Your Unborn (and Grown) Child

It can be difficult to have complete peace and not worry while you are pregnant. I found myself constantly worrying about everything relating to my unborn child.  I would wonder if she was okay in there.  Was she getting all that she needed?  Was she moving around enough?, etc. I realized how important it was to fully turn my worry and anxiety over to God and allow myself to completely TRUST Him.

There were 5 consistent things that I found myself praying for throughout my pregnancy. I currently pray these same blessings over my newborn, and plan to keep praying for them over the next 80 years (they’ll still be our babies when they’re adults, right?).

Health and Strength. I prayed strongly that our baby would be healthy and strong. That she would grow and develop just the way she needed to.

“The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.” Psalm 29:11

Protection. I prayed for protection over her while she was in my belly. Now, I ask the Lord daily to protect her physically, mentally, and emotionally. I ask for protection over her while in our home and while we’re driving her in the car. I pray that God surround her with his angels to protect, guide and direct her throughout her life.

Peace. I prayed for peace. Peace for myself throughout pregnancy and now, through motherhood. I prayed that the baby would be peaceful in the womb and come out calm and filled with God’s perfect peace. Each day, I ask God to fill her little mind with peaceful thoughts and images.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

Joy. I prayed that my baby would be content in the womb, and now I pray that she will continue to adjust and will be filled with joy and happiness. I know every day won’t be filled with rainbows and butterflies (more like poop and meltdowns), but I pray that she will be so happy and enjoy life. Obviously as she grows, I’ll be praying for this for the rest of her life. We want joy to flood our home and become an overwhelming presence in Mia.

Purpose. This was my favorite request to ask of God. How powerful. Before she was even born, I would pray for her purpose. Her purpose has already made me a mother. And now, I pray that as she gets older, she will have a zeal for life and develop a passion for her purpose. I pray that God will reveal to Mia what His purpose for her life is, and show her in His perfect timing.  I will continue to pray that she can live a life with value and a sense of who she is in God’s eyes, so she can realize her true potential in Him.

It gave me so much peace and comfort to be able to pray these things over my baby before she was even born. Each day, I thank the Lord for her and for allowing me to be her mommy, and look forward to continuing these prayers throughout her life. I believe that a mother’s prayer for her child directly touches the heart of God; prayers for our children imitate God’s love for us. Those prayers are selfless, caring and unconditional!

“For this child, I have prayed.” 1 Samuel 1:27

There are so many wonderful things you can pray over your child, and it’s never too early to begin. What do you enjoy praying for most?

Thanks, girl! It is hard to remember in the heat of stressful moments, but without fail, it gets me through it.
