At this point in your headache, losing your eyes sounds like it might not be too bad. I’ve been there more times than I can count and it’s pretty miserable. I get headaches pretty frequently but not enough to be alarming (or go to the doctor). BUT, anytime I do start to feel a throb deep in my head, I know what I’m in for. Nine times out of ten I DON’T have time to stay home and nurse myself back to feeling normal again. Like most parents, I’m working, taking the clothes off Barbie, throwing in laundry, driving while listening to baby shark for the nineteenth time that day and a headache is a pure inconvenience.

Headaches are pretty annoying but most of the time, it’s a reaction to something you’ve done to your body that makes it ache. Too much sugar? Not enough water? Allergy season? Didn’t feel like going to the doctor for the antibiotic you probably need for a sinus infection? Knowing “where” the cause of the headache is coming from can help you target how to fix it.

For general headaches, I’ve got some specific tricks that help the nagging go away that I SWEAR by. Need fast headache relief? You’re in the right place!

Fast Headache Relief Tip #1

  • I always say the first line of defense is taking some medicine. If I feel it coming, taking medication sooner can help curve the severity before it puts you all the way down. The ONLY medicine I take for headaches (and even an ER doctor agreed), is Excedrin Migraine. Within an hour, I swear I can feel it starting to work and the throb to subside. I keep a huge bottle of it in my purse and has come in handy for Demetrius and I if we get a headache on the road.

Fast Headache Relief Tip #2

  • Ok, you didn’t take medicine in time and you can’t take the throbbing any longer. If you can make it to nap time or find a quiet (lol) activity for your kid(s) to keep them busy for a while (serious lol), get a heating pad and lay down! Something about the heat wrapped around my head always makes me feel better. I don’t know if it *actually* works or if my brain thinks because I’m doing something, it must be working. If you can squeezing in a little nap in is even better!

Fast Headache Relief Tip #3

  • You didn’t get your medicine in time AND you can’t lay down. Maybe you’re at work or you are running around for the day to handle things that just can’t wait. My go-to is ALWAYS a Do-Terra (YoungLiving works, too!) peppermint oil roller. The roller has peppermint oil and a carrier oil (coconut, almond, etc) and I roll it on my temples, behind my ears and on my neck. If nothing else, the peppermint tingles and makes my brain feel “frozen” to help me forget about the pain.Headache-Oil

Fast Headache Relief Tip #4

  • PEDIALYTE. Wait, isn’t that for kids? YES IT IS but it also works magic for adults, too. I could go on and on about WHY we love Pedialyte so much at our house (anyone interested in reading a blog post about that?), but I’ll spare you this time. Think about it, many times we get headaches because we are dehydrated (not enough water, sweating a lot, hangovers!… YES, there’s a Pedialyte for that!) so our bodies react by giving us a big achy head. I’ve found that drinking Pedialtye really helps give my body the hydration and electrolytes that I need to help fight off a hangover. Seriously, this stuff is awesome.

Do you feel better yet? I’m telling you, every time I come down with a headache, these 4 steps save me EVERY TIME! If you’re still struggling with headaches, you may consider Botox or Cryotherapy to help.

What are your GO TO remedies for headache relief?

Love the idea of using peppermint oil! I try to avoid painkillers if it isn’t too bad – this seems like a really good alternative!

I’ve never heard of drinking pedialyte for a headache but then if you are dehydrated or haven’t gotten good nutrition, that’s what it’s good for. Hmmm.
